COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN STUDIO
The primary focus of the studio was the creation of a resilient structure that could accommodate an ever-changing environment, (both physically and socially) and as a result could successfully house a variety of programs. This project employs a steel moment frame that allows for a series of volumes, supported by trusses, to cantilever. These cantilevered volumes result in special programmatic moments both within the volume as well as underneath the volume, while the moment frame allows for the primary volume of the structure to have relatively open floor plates. Located in the Fort Port District in Boston, it is know that the site will eventually flood, and with this knowledge in mind, the structure was designed to have a flood-able ground floor level with its main entrance located on the second floor.
